Bio-separation involves the separation of bio-active substances such as proteins, DNA/RNA enzymes, exosomes, antibodies and much more.

Bio-active substances are often extremely valuable substances which are initially extracted in small volumes. The more gentle the separation and cleaning of these substances, the higher the yield.

i3 Membrane has developed membranes for separation and cleaning (polishing) which are particularly suitable for bio-active substances. Thanks to the adjustable chromatographic features of sterile filtrations membranes, substances can be extracted without shifting the pH value or increasing salinity of the carrier fluid. Membrane charging is simply shifted by shifting the electric voltage, whereby it is also possible to measure under the current flow how many binding sites are occupied on the membrane.

This new separation method will enable many bio-separation steps to be designed more easily and efficiently in the future.
