i3 TrackPor MAirborne Asbestos Monitor

Ready-to-use i3 TrackPor M asbestos analysis monitors for single-use make it easier for you to monitor airborne asbestos particles thanks to a membrane that has already been sputtered with gold.

In the past, asbestos was frequently used in the construction industry on account, among other things, of it insulating and heat-resistant properties. Today, it is still frequently encountered in office buildings, public venues or schools although its use has been prohibited because of its harmful effects on health. It is especially dangerous to people, for example, in locations where previously installed asbestos escapes and, becoming airborne, enters the body via the respiratory tract.

The level of respirable asbestos fibers in ambient air is determined through particle measurement according to VDI Guideline 3492. A monitor with a filter membrane is connected to a sampling device. Air is drawn through the monitor over a period of several hours, causing the particles to be deposited on the gold-coated membrane. Upon conclusion of the measurement, the golden membrane is removed in the laboratory and the dust on it is burned. Afterwards, the asbestos fibers can be counted under a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Finally, energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDXA) is used to identify and classify the types of fibers found.

In accordance with VDI Guideline 3861, the TrackPor M can be used for measuring waste air/emissions during asbestos removal.

The i3 TrackPor membrane has a pore size of 0.8 µm and a diameter of 25 mm; it is coated with 40 nm of gold on the intake side and 20 nm of gold on the reverse.
